Fingers in Pies

Michael Hjort is Chef/Proprietor of Melton's (M1) and Melton's Too (MToo) but he is also the Managing Director of York Food and Drink Festival.

The key feature of the Festival, M1 and MToo is a focus on seasonal local produce. Michael has been passionate about this ever since he and Lucy opened Melton's in 1990.

Michael is often approached to do cookery demonstrations and workshops for various groups. These have included both primary and secondary schools . The most recent series of workshops however is for the homeless. Michael's latest project is a number of practical workshops helping the recently homeless to cook simply and cheaply.

Michael is also a Director on the board of VisitYork, the local tourist organisation, helping in yet another way to highlight what York and Yorkshire has to offer to Visitors, both national and international.

Bringing Tourism and food together, Michael introduced the Gourmet Yorkshire website which offers trails around Yorkshire, highlighting producers, suppliers and retailers of good quality produce.
